11/06/2026 FRIDAY OF THE 31ST WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME

Hello.

Today is the first Friday of the month. As we know there are days and months set aside to give honor to God, His angles and His saints.

The First Friday of the month is dedicated to the Sacred Hear of Jesus, as is the month of June.

The saints from the earliest days have left us reflection regarding the Heart of Jesus. St. Augustine give us this short reflection. “ You have made ups for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.”

St. John Henry Newman (1801-1890) tells us “The heart of Jesus is a heart of flesh not of stone. He loves us as if there were none other for Him to love.”

Both these men make real this person of Jesus. He is not just a statue we see in a church or in someone’s front yard or on a shelf in someone’s home.

As St. John reminds us that the Heart of Jesus is a heart of flesh and no of stone or some kind of plaster. It is a heart that beats and has feeling. It is just as real as a symboleof love as any we send or see on Stl. Valentine’s day.

So, are our heart’s restless? Maybe today we may place ourselves in the presence of the Sacred Heart and allow the Lord to give the “rest” we so long for.

Peace and All Good,
Fr. Vinnie, osf and the
Bros and Srs of the
Franciscan House of Prayer.
